Sculptra Aesthetic is FDA-approved to smooth deep wrinkles and reverse facial fat/volume loss. Originally created to treat HIV and cancer-related cachectic appearance, it is considered a safe injectable. Sculptra is poly L- lactic acid (PLLA) which improves the structural integrity of the skin in the treatment area by stimulating collagen. I always challenge my patients who want to age gracefully to do something to restore collagen in the skin because we lose collagen consistently as we age and therefore must challenge the skin to produce more. Sculptra results are not immediate but appreciated roughly 4-6 weeks after each treatment. Fortunately, Sculptra has a long lasting effect, typically more than 2 years.
The most common treatment area is the face. Patients who have age related volume loss or who have lost weight benefit greatly from facial injections with Sculptra. A "liquid face lift" is a term used when the injector tacks back the periphery of the face causing an overall smoothing of wrinkles taking the heaviness away from the midline of the face. Other facial areas of treatment are the nasolabial folds (folds on either side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth),volume loss and wrinkles on the cheeks, and hollows in the temples or in front of the ears.
The second most common injection area would be the buttocks for a non-surgical butt lift or what is called a "Sculptra Booty". Injections to this area help smooth out cellulite and cause increased lift, contour, tone, and volume to the buttock area. Treating the elbows, knees, neck lines and thighs is also common to improve cellulite dimples and to diminish wrinkles, skin laxity and sagging.
This product delivers rejuvenating results and I am convinced that the ageless looking beauties of Hollywood are being treated with it. Sculptra provides a very natural and gradual improvement which allows for patients who do not want people to know they have 'done anything' to not change one's appearance overnight. Sculptra treatments are often done in a series of visits depending on the treatment area.
